Race Details

  • Date: Saturday, February 22, 2025
  • Start Location: 3 Thornton Street, Darfield
  • Registration Opens: 7:30 AM
  • Mandatory Race Briefing: 7:50 AM
  • First Rider Off: 8:00 AM
  • Last Rider Off: Approximately 9:02 AM
  • Finish Location: Just past the 50 km/h speed limit sign before Arthur’s Pass
  • Race Distance: Shortened by approximately 5 km
  • Estimated Finish Time: Between 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Race Format & Safety Regulations

  • Handicap Race: Due to numbers (43 riders), there will be one race instead of two.

  • Road Conditions: Open roads, NO traffic management at bridges.

  • Road Rules: You MUST stay left of the white line at all times, including the final sprint.

  • Disqualification Rule: ANY RIDER CROSSING THE WHITE LINE IN THE SPRINT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

  • Post-Finish Instructions:
  • Roll off the road immediately after finishing.
  • NO U-TURNS after finishing.
  • Riders may quietly roll into Arthur’s Pass village.


Vehicle Support & Traffic Management

  • Several vehicles will follow the faster marks.

  • If a support vehicle honks three times, you must move as far left as possible to let motor traffic pass.

  • A couple of honks will follow to signal you can resume normal racing.

Hydration & Nutrition

  • Recommended: 3 bottles for the day (2 in cages, 1 in jersey pocket)
  • Bottle Hand-Offs:
  • Scratch, Break, 1st Break: Hand bottles to Dominic Van Berlo
  • 2nd Break, to Go: Hand bottles to Jason Wilson
  • Note: There is no guarantee your bottles will be returned.

  • Food: Bring plenty of ride snacks – it’s a long day out.

  • Weather Forecast: Mild conditions, slight Nor’wester headwind most of the way. Maybe some rain

Finish & Transport Back to Darfield

  • Prizegiving: Immediately after the race – ALL riders are expected to be present.

  • Bike Transport: Two bike trailers and several cars will be available.

  • Return Ride List: Below is a list of assigned transport back to Darfield.

  • If you do not see your name or have any questions, contact Alex.
  • Departure from Arthur’s Pass: Vehicles will be loaded by 1:30 PM, leaving at 2:00 PM.

  • Drop-off Location: Darfield – It is your responsibility to arrange transport from Darfield.

  • Courtesy for Drivers: A koha for your driver is appreciated (booze, lollies, or cash 😉).

  • Be on time – registration closes strictly at 8:00 AM.
  • Safety first – obey all road rules.
  • Respect your fellow riders and the support crew.
